More than 6,000 cases of Farm Rich frozen pizza products are being recalled after the company found they may contain foreign material. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the affected snacks could contain metal fragments.

The recall was issued by Rich Products Corporation, the parent company behind Farm Rich, and it includes around 6,000 cases of Farm Rich Pizza Cheese Crunchers.

However, the threat to consumers may be minimal because the recalled product was not distributed to or sold at retail stores. This item was exclusively sold to foodservice providers, according to a representative from Farm Rich.

According to the FDA’s enforcement report, the problem came to light after the company received complaints about metal in the product. The source of the contamination hasn’t been publicly disclosed, but the recall has been classified as a Class II. That means the product could cause temporary or medically reversible health issues, though the chance of more serious harm is lower than it would be with a Class I recall.

Any foodservice provider with the affected Farm Rich Pizza Cheese Crunchers in the freezer shouldn’t eat or serve them; the safest course of action is to throw them away or return them to the store for a refund.

Recalls involving foreign materials are not unusual, but they can still be serious. Metal fragments can potentially injure your mouth, teeth, throat, or digestive tract if swallowed. At this point, no widespread injuries connected to the recall have been publicly reported, but the FDA has still listed the recall as active.
