I TRIED BURGER KING’S NEW SUMMER MENU & THIS IS THE ONE ITEM YOU NEED TO ORDER

Burger King is determined to keep customers fed all summer long. The fast food chain is keeping both the limited-time Bacon Swiss BBQ Whopper and Cheddar Ranch Tots on the menu a little longer, while also adding three new items to the mix.

Joining the summer lineup are the Loaded Jalapeño Whopper, Orange Dreamsicle Freezee King, and Firecracker Cookie Pie. The Whopper is a “Whopper By You” creation, part of Burger King’s initiative that invites customers to submit ideas for the next burger build. This one features nearly 4.5 ounces of 100 percent flame-grilled beef topped with crispy and pickled jalapeños, creamy jalapeño sauce, lettuce, tomato, and American cheese.

The result is a satisfying, spicy, and flavor-packed burger that manages to be hotter than the weather has been lately. The jalapeño sauce adds a creamy tang, while the heap of jalapeños brings the heat. The cheese helps round out some of that, and overall, Burger King does a great job of balancing the spice with flavor without letting either completely overpower the other.

The Freezee King has a frozen orange base and comes topped with orange cream cold foam and sprinkles… at least it’s supposed to. I don’t know whether it melted during delivery or just wasn’t made properly, but my drink arrived sans cold foam or sprinkles. So while I can’t speak to whether it truly tastes like an orange creamsicle, I can say the base itself is at least quite tasty. It reminded me of orange Tic Tacs in drink form, which I mean as a compliment.

Last up was the Firecracker Cookie Pie, which features a crisp sugar cookie crunch base topped with velvety cream and red, white, and blue star-shaped sprinkles. It was clearly made to celebrate America’s 250th and looks the part. Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing item of the bunch. While the sugar cookie “crust” was delicious, it was not crispy at all. Instead, it was completely soggy, giving the pie no structure at all. The topping felt more like a lazy add-on of whipped cream than a thoughtful filling, and without any real contrast in texture, the whole thing came off a little flat.

While I wouldn’t make a repeat purchase of the pie, I’d happily slurp down another Freezee and eat another Loaded Jalapeño Whopper. In fact, I wouldn’t be all that surprised if the Whopper eventually stuck around as a permanent menu item.
